Larry is a taxi driver who doesn't have a lot going for him. He has a terrible job that's not well paid and a boss who hates him and annoying co-workers and taxi passengers. We first meet Larry sitting in his taxi all depressed going about his usual rounds in the taxi. The shot then moves to the taxi office and Larry at his desk bored and depressed, his boss always scolding him for slaking off and giving Larry piles of awful paper work to do. Larry is going through his paper work when a woman catches his eye who is about to leave the building. Larry is instantly taken with her. He then realises she looks very familiar. He quickly shuffles through his belongings in his desk drawer and pulls out a old photo. It's a photo of himself as a child along with a young girl. She was his childhood friend, Betty.
The scene then moves to a flashback of young Larry and Betty who always played together and looked out for each other. The scene then switches to a dark atmosphere as we see young Larry standing on his own in front of a house with a large "SOLD" sign beside it. He didn't see Betty again, until now!
We then come back to the present. Larry decides to pursue the woman who we now know is Betty, but she has already left and has disappeared. Larry desperately searches for her anxiously wanting to find his old friend (or crush?). Larry runs throughout the city looking high and low for her but fails to find her. Eventually the sad and disappointed Larry gives up.
We next see Larry back in his taxi extra depressed than how he was before. He is on his usual rounds again waiting for passengers to get a taxi. We hear the taxi door opening, camera is still on the gloomy Larry. A passenger gets in. Larry looks in his mirror to see it's Betty. To his amazement he turns around quickly and they make eye contact. They both recognise each other and smile.
The End.
Visual:
A draft of my animation poster. Still unsure about some things. I'll experiment some more.
Title: "Found in Transition" ... a play on the film title "Lost in Translation"
Characters: Larry and Betty.
Locations: City streets.
Mood Broad:
I like the simple pastel coloured city scape. It's not overly detailed and similar colour palette. Nice texture.
I really like the simplicity. Backgrounds are quick and sketchy and a water colour sky. Barely any colour, just some tone for depth.
I like the sketchy drawing style of the bar area. Not too detailed, similar colour palette.
I found the use of photography as the background very interesting. Good textures and a sense of depth.
Simple shapes and tones. Nice textures and sense of depth.
Simple and sketchy line drawing. Very little use of colour.
A good gloomy atmosphere with the grey tones, suitable in certain situations in the animation?
A lovely example of a simple and effective animation poster. Tells a lot of the story with one image.
This artists work has great sketches and ideas. I like her use of lines and colours.
Looking at city textures and colour palette.
